Worthwhile and not as scary as it looks

I am no stranger to anal play but have always done this solo. My ex refused to even consider anal play but my new partner loves all things ass, so in order to boost my confidence in anal play as a couple I wanted to try douching.
Lovehoney have a good selection of douches but I think this is the most attractive (if it's possible for a douche to be attractive!), and I was impressed at the quality when I took it out the package. It's not in any way plasticy or cheap feeling. The bulb is very comfortable to hold, with a kind of soft grip material. The whole kit did seem very big in real life, as is often the case with buying sex toys and kit online, and I don't think this would fit in most people's bedside drawer!
There are three components to this douche, one of them being an attachment for use with a showerhead. Unfortunately I only have a bath so have been unable to test this, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work as the other two elements (the nozzle and the bulb) were of excellent quality. When connecting the nozzle to the bulb, you have to push and clip the nozzle in a tiny bit before screwing the pieces together.
After browsing the Lovehoney forum for tips on douching, I cleaned the kit and filled the bulb with warm water. I had no trouble inserting the nozzle with a bit of lube, it's only the thickness of my index finger, but I did find that the length of the nozzle made it a little awkward to position the douche as prior to insertion you have to hold the bulb a fair bit away from your body.
Once inserted, you squeeze the bulb and I kept going till I felt I couldn't take any more water. I guess every body is different, but I just trusted my body and when it felt like enough, I stopped. I couldn't believe I'd inserted nearly all of the 9 inches the first time, it wasn't uncomfortable at all, so even if you've never had anal sex, I would say with some confidence that if you use lube and are relaxed, you will have no problem. At the end of the day, it will still work if you have only a couple of inches inserted and with four holes at the end of the nozzle, it feels like you're getting a good clean from all angles!
Now, there's no way to dress this up, you will be basically pissing out of your bum. It's a strange sensation, not unpleasant, and now that I have done it several times it is actually slightly enjoyable, certainly nothing to be scared of. It's not something I would want to do in front of my partner, or even with him in the next room, it's quite a crude experience, so find some quiet time for your first attempt so there's no embarrassment!
I don't know what the health and safety police would say about this, but I am tempted to try using this in the bath - I just wonder if it would be easier to use if I am not hovering over the toilet! Lovehoney - could you provide a link for tips on using a douche, not just the actual kit, but maybe the best positions to use it in, how often you can safely use it?
I repeated the inserting, squeezing and 'emptying' several times until I felt like I was clean. Once you're done, the nozzle is easy to detach from the bulb (it just unscrews) and easy to clean.
I think the main piece of advice I would give is prepare to have several test goes to get used to using it and the after effects. I certainly wouldn't recommend using it for the first time and then going in for anal. For sometime after my first use, I felt like I had slight abdominal cramps and wind - not very sexy! But once I got used to the process, I got better at doing it and there were less after effects. Also, have a towel handy, it's a little awkward co-ordinating using it over the toilet bowl, but again it's something I am getting the hang of and definitely not enough to put me off using it.
I have been incorporating this into my morning routine and it's given me a load of confidence. I'm no medical professional, but I guess if you have any bowel problems or feel any discomfort, you should stop using it and seek advice from your Doctor. Common sense I guess, but worth mentioning.
The Perfect Fit Ergo 2in1 Douche was surprisingly easy to use, gave me a lot more confidence in my body and I would highly recommend it if you're looking to feel clean prior to anal.
